Prospective Member Information

Established in 2010, College Consultants of Colorado is a consortium of independent educational consultants whose professional training and backgrounds allow them to effectively serve students and their families in the college planning and search process. Our purpose is to promote professional development by providing our members opportunities for education, collaboration, and collegial support at our monthly meetings. Members are invited to serve on various committees and share in the responsibility for meeting arrangements and programming. Please review our ethics statement to learn more about our organization.

Membership Requirements and Expectations

We strive to be inclusive and welcoming to all while maintaining college consulting standards and ethics. CCC members must maintain and meet the following criteria:

1. Members must be in good standing in one of these professional organizations: HECA (any level), IECA (any level), or NACAC (only in the student individual associate or the independent counselors’ category).

This requirement helps ensure members have met certain industry standards and are committed to following ethical standards as set by the named professional groups. If you are currently working with all good intent to become a member of one of the named organizations, your membership will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2. Members are encouraged to participate in ongoing professional development activities including attending professional conferences, webinars and visiting several college campuses each year.

3. Members are expected to attend a minimum of three meetings per year and to make contributions toward our purpose of mutual education, collaboration and collegial support.
4. Members must be residents of Colorado or have a business entity (LLC, S-Corp, or similar) in Colorado (or both).

An independent educational consultant is a valuable resource for students and families as they plan for college and those seeking to hire an independent educational consultant should interview and find the person who will best meet individual needs.

In finding a consultant, parents are encouraged to ask about methods of keeping up with the higher education landscape (particularly personal visits to college campuses), membership in professional organizations, attendance at professional meetings and training programs, years of experience, academic degrees and training, and specialized training in areas such as learning disabled students.

Any implied or suggested "guarantee" of admission to any college is not sanctioned by relevant professional associations. Further, all fees should be stated clearly and at the onset of the consulting relationship.
