Hi! I’m Margaret Sullivan, founder of Best Words Forward. I’ve spent more than 25 years working in education—as a teacher, researcher, evaluator, policy advisor, consultant, and college admissions counselor.

My Approach

I start by getting to know each student—what matters to them, what they’re curious about, and what they want from their college experience. From there, I help students and families build thoughtful college lists, navigate the application process, and uncover the stories and values at the heart of their essays. I ask a lot of questions, listen closely, and help students tell their stories in a way that sounds unmistakably like them.

About Me

Before focusing on college admissions, I spent much of my career in education research and policy, including many years at Mathematica. I hold a Certificate in College Advising from Columbia University, an M.P.P. from Georgetown University, and a B.A. from the University of Virginia. I’m also a mom of two boys and a longtime Colorado resident who loves music and the outdoors.
